Spine Center Atlanta

Chiropractic Program

SpineCenterAtlanta‘s comprehensive Chiropractic program is available to patients as their primary method of treatment or as a complementary and supportive program for patients who may already be involved in some level of care for their orthopaedic and musculoskeletal condition(s).

Chiropractic is a health care field which focuses on disorders of the musculoskeletal and nervous systems, and the numerous effects such disorders have on individuals.  Chiropractic is a drug-free, hands-on health care approach most often used to treat neuromuscular and skeletal complaints, which include but may not be limited to, back pain, neck pain, pain the the joints of the arms and legs, and headaches.  Chiropractic is common in the treatment and care of patients with Sciatica, bulged or herniated disc, “pinched” nerves, Scoliosis, along with numerous other spinal and neuromuscular conditions.

The most common therapeutic procedure performed by doctors of Chiropractic is known as “chiropractic adjustment”, which is also known as spinal manipulation.  The purpose of manipulation/adjustment is to restore joint mobility through the manual application of controlled force into joint(s) which may have become restricted in their movement as a result of accident, injury, poor posture, improper lifting techniques at home and work or through repetitive stresses.  No matter the reason for the restricted motion, which may be in the joints of the spine or extremities, the injured tissues undergo chemical and physical changes resulting in inflammation, pain, and diminished tolerances to activities of daily living.  Manipulation restores joint mobility, thus relieving inflammation, pain, muscle tightness and gives the joint and surrounding muscles and tissue a better chance at healing.

Chiropractic also employs other treatment modalities such as heat, ice, electrical stimulation, ultrasound therapy, posture education and therapeutic exercise, all used to complement the use of spinal manipulation in the care of neuromuscular conditions.  When indicated and appropriate, the doctor of Chiropractic, acting as member of the comprehensive healthcare team, will refer patients for further evaluation and care to a medical doctor, spine specialist, physical therapist, message therapist, or for wellness services such as Pilates, yoga, meditation, nutritional and lifestyle counseling, all used to complement the use of the chiropractic adjustment.

Dr. Maria Leyva, Doctor of Chiropractic, is available Monday through Thursday of each week, appointments preferred, walk-ins welcome.  To schedule a Chiropractic appointment, to learn more about your healthcare plan’s Chiropractic benefits, or for further information on the SpineCenterAtlanta Chiropractic program, contact our office at (404) 856-6661.
